Borkenstein, December 2003, which is the same training the State intoxilyzer experts are required to complete.  He has a certificate of completion from the Mastering Scientific Evidence Course, April 2003.  He is a certified intoxilyzer 5000 operator and Technician purusant to DOT standard.  Clients come from across Utah and from other states to retain his services. He focuses on cases in the UTAH AREA.

Our winner answered the question correctly. Please visit the www.TheTruthAboutForensicScience.com FaceBook fan page.

Our Geek of the Week answered:

A.  This is generally called a simulator.
B.  Guth 34C model.
C.  Simulate a human breath test to check calibrations of the breath tester.
D.  NIST Mercury-in-Glass serialized reference thermometer.  The Simulator must be heated to 34 degrees C.  The thermometer tells the monkey that that it is okay to push a button to run a check.
E.  If the intended purpose is to support convictions of innocent people, then yes.  However, if the intended purpose is to simulate a human breath, it does not do that.  It is a closed container heated to a controlled temperature.  A human is not a closed jar and the temperature is not controlled.  A human has too many variables to be compared to a closed jar.

[BLOGGER’S NOTE:  Just to amplify….  Glen is right.  We blogged on related issues at:  Breath testing theory for ETOH is wrong and unscientific]
